Owen Racer is a journalist based in the Pacific Northwest. He covers healthcare for Cascadia Daily News in Bellingham, Washington with a focus on U.S. hospitals. His public health reporting has been recognized regionally by the Society of Professional Journalists and Best of the West. His writing has appeared in KFF Health News, The Guardian, NPR, and Bloomberg, among others. His freelance work includes reporting from Ecuador and El Salvador, where he wrote about intergenerational change in the coffee industry. He’s worked as a policy reporter on Capitol Hill and covered the presidential campaigns of Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. He has produced audio stories for NPR stations and wrote about how the Biden Administration’s policies were impacting Russia’s war in Ukraine for The Kyiv Independent as a U.S. Correspondent. He has a master’s degree in health and science reporting from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.
