Owen Racer is an award-winning multimedia journalist based in Bellingham, Washington. He covers public health and health care for Cascadia Daily News. His writing has appeared in KFF Health News, The Guardian, NPR, and Bloomberg, among others. His work includes long-form documentation of intergenerational change in Latin America’s coffee industry. He’s spent time as a policy reporter on Capitol Hill and covering the presidential campaigns of Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. He has produced audio stories for NPR stations such as WVXU and WHYY, and wrote about how the Biden Administration’s policies were impacting Russia’s war in Ukraine for a year. He frequently writes about the U.S. mental health care system and previously reported from Louisiana, Colorado, and Ohio. He has a master’s degree in health and science reporting from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism.
